Cross Contour
I taught this lesson to freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors in Art 1 (introductory 2D) classes. This was one of four lessons that were pre-determined based on a foundation curriculum that all the Art 1 teachers were expected to follow. I haven’t attached the lesson plan because I don’t feel that it’s mine to share, but it was a great learning experience for me as well as my students!
We started with cross-contour ‘bootcamps’ on a variety of forms, and shading demonstrations exploring different light sources. Students then created compositions using at least one of each of the forms we practiced, and experimenting with size variation, overlapping, cropping, and creating unique shapes. Students were also responsible for choosing a light source and coloring their composition accordingly. It was exciting to see the variety of themes and landscapes that students creating using the abstract forms!
