Rattles
Our mid-term project combined skills built in the first half of Ceramics I with new explorations in sculpting!
Students began by choosing an animal or object that they wanted to sculpt, then problem-solved the technique they wanted to use to construct their rattle. Students either combined two pinch pots or attached a pinch pot to a slab to create their hollow chamber, then added on clay and sculpted details to flesh out their design. Many students chose animals, including pets as well as dinosaurs, owls, frogs, and bumble bees. Other students created cereal bowls, plants, tennis bowls, and cartoon characters.
I absolutely loved the whimsy of this project, and many of the students enjoyed it as well!
